April in Malibu, these two just had one request for engagement photos location, “out west” . Coming from Tennessee, they love their home dearly but that makes visiting the landscapes out here that much more special. We got drinks overlooking the ocean, then ventured North to Matador beach. The cliffy beach was packed with Friday afternoon beach-goers but it truly felt like it was only these two. The rocks that jut straight up from the sand, speckling the coastline, create pockets of light and shadow, which was so fun to play with as we shot longer into the set. Caleb climbing rocks and Shelby keeping right up, it was an effortlessly playful and natural shoot and we all just soaked up that feeling of the California sun. As the sun sank beneath the horizon and the sky went a deep ombre, we were left with an almost secluded beach. In the last moments, me using the last of the light reflecting off of the changing waves, we spotted dolphins flipping just off of the shore. We stayed on the beach far beyond dark and when we hugged goodbye, my heart broke a little. I say this a lot but these are my people, and i’m beyond lucky to get to work with them.
